ICYMI, we’re already so tired of 2021 (or maybe just life in general) that some of us (read: people on TikTok) started drawing on dark circles.
Of course, there was backlash, with people – particularly those from Middle Eastern and South Asian descent – explaining that they’d spent years trying to cover their natural dark circles so they weren’t ridiculed (more on that here).
Taking the trend in a new direction, 17-year-old TikToker Pippa Barnes posted a now-viral video giving dark circles a colorful twist. “Apparently eye bags are a trend now, which I’m not going to argue with because, clearly, I have some definite baggage going on,” she jokes. “You know I had to spice this trend up a bit.”
The colourful eye bags hashtag now has over 1.4m views, with other make-up fanatics – including Dazed 100er Abby Roberts – posting videos of their own take on it. Creating the look is simple enough, rather than smoking out your lid, you just bring it it underneath – the options for colours are unlimited, with rainbows, pastels, and more populating the hashtag.
So, what are you waiting for? Try it out for yourself before TikTok declares eye bags passé. BRB, we’re going to find a way to do it without looking like we’ve fallen face first into a Morphe palette.
