Darkish Circles presents free dance lessons for the Mesilla Valley

Erin Vonder Haar is among the professional dancers teaching a free community master class on dance on Dec. 11, 2021 at Las Cruces High School.

LAS CRUCES – Dark Circles Contemporary Dance is offering two free community master classes.

“We hope this will be the beginning of a series of free monthly masterclasses for the community led by seasoned dance professionals from around the world,” said Dark Circles Founder and Artistic Director Joshua L. Peugh, who is a Las Cruces native. “We want to provide the Mesilla Valley with innovative and excellent contemporary dance.”

Erin Vonder Haar, Vanessa Owen, and Gavin Stewart — three of the five professional dance artists Dark Circles has hired for Las Cruces Chamber Ballet and Michele’s Dance Academy’s annual production of “The Nutcracker” — will lead the classes.

“Having these world-class, in-demand professional dancers teaching and performing in Las Cruces gives young artists in our area a chance to see, learn from, and work side-by-side with professionals in their own city while also encouraging community building citywide,” Peugh said.

Classes are 10 a.m. and noon Saturday, Dec. 11, at Las Cruces High School and are free and open to the public (ages 12+).
