Consumers Love Versed Retinol Eye Cream for Darkish Circles and Baggage

The depths of January are a hard place to be, especially if you’re an East Coaster who bids adieu to the sun at 5 p.m. on the dot. Bright spots are tough to come by, but the internet provides: If you’re on TikTok, #westelmcaleb is a huge source of joy, and if you’re not, the reviews for Versed’s new retinol eye balm are just as much of a happy pick-me-up.

Versed has amassed a loyal following based on its affordable, paraben-, sulfate-, silicone-, and animal-testing free skincare, and its other retinol products are widely beloved. The Smooth Landing Advanced Retinoid Eye Balm is the brand’s first retinol in a balm format, though, and it’s a luxurious debut: A gentle dose of retinol meets vitamin E, black currant seed oil, and shiitake mushroom extract, with a backdrop of shea butter and hydrating polyglycerides.

“I am blown away by how amazing this eye cream is,” wrote one user, who saw their crow’s feet and wrinkles diminish with continued use.” They’re not alone; another person said that while they were facing “noticeable” fine lines and dark circles around their eyes, within a few weeks of using the Smooth Landing, those complaints faded away.

Even reviewers with “deep undereye wrinkles” say the formula’s made them a fan. “This worked beautifully to help significantly smooth out my under eye area,” they continued. “I am so impressed with this eye balm — my eyes look less dull and more youthful. I would recommend this 100 times over.” One more point in its favor: Despite the shopper’s sensitive eyes, they saw no irritation whatsoever.

“Stubborn” dark circles also recede with continued use, per another customer, leaving their shadowy areas significantly brighter within a few days. Shoppers report their puffy bags likewise shrinking, and the skin around their eyes tightening and softening with just a few nightly dabs of the fast-absorbing balm.

“I started off with some fine lines under my eyes and some pretty rough dark circles. After taking progress photos a few weeks in a row — WOW,” wrote a last reviewer. “I didn’t realize it had been making such a difference until I saw the photos. My under eyes were looking a LOT smoother, and the dark circles had subsided quite a bit… and that’s just after one month.”
